Partner With the Company That Invented the Category #

Maktar works with telecom operators, technology brands, and enterprise platforms to bring digital asset protection to millions of subscribers and end users. We provide the technology. You provide the reach.

Our track record: 1.1 million devices shipped, 68% of revenue from Japan, production partnerships with SoftBank, I-O DATA, and Elecom, and a decade of MFi-certified hardware-software platform development. We don’t pitch concepts. We deliver proven solutions.

For Telecom Operators #

Archive as a Service #

Your subscribers already have the most valuable data they’ll ever create on their phones—photos of their children, videos of irreplaceable moments, documents they cannot afford to lose. They know they should protect this data. They don’t.

Archive as a Service solves this with a subscription offering built on Maktar’s proven Qubii platform and three-layer protection architecture.

The Subscriber Experience #

Day one: Subscriber receives a Qubii device (bundled with plan or purchased as add-on). They plug it between their charger and cable. Setup is complete.

Every night: Phone charges. Qubii automatically backs up new photos, videos, and contacts to local storage. No app to open. No button to press. No habit to build.

From anywhere: P2P remote access lets subscribers view and retrieve their backed-up content from any device, without uploading everything to a centralized cloud.

Forever: AWS Glacier cold storage archives their most important content for long-term disaster protection. Even if the phone is lost, stolen, or destroyed—even if the local backup device is gone—their memories survive.

The Operator Value Proposition #

High perceived value, low infrastructure cost. Unlike cloud storage offerings that require massive server investment scaling linearly with subscribers, Qubii’s architecture places primary storage on the subscriber’s local device. Cloud costs are limited to the Glacier cold storage tier—a fraction of the cost of hot cloud storage.

Emotional switching cost. Subscribers don’t switch away from the service protecting their family photos. This is not commodity storage. It is peace of mind tied to their most valued personal possessions. Churn characteristics are fundamentally different from generic cloud storage.

Hardware touchpoint. The physical Qubii device creates a tangible brand presence in the subscriber’s home—on their nightstand, next to their charger, used every single day. No other digital service provides this level of physical brand reinforcement.

Differentiation. Every telecom operator offers cloud storage. Very few offer automatic, effortless, three-layer digital asset protection with a physical device. This is a positioning advantage in a market where subscriber acquisition and retention increasingly depend on differentiated value-added services.

Integration Model #

Maktar provides the complete technology stack. The operator provides distribution, billing, and customer relationship management.

Deployment Options #

White-label: Full rebranding—operator’s name on the device, operator’s brand in the app, operator’s identity throughout the subscriber experience. Maktar is invisible to the end user.

Co-branded: Joint branding that leverages both Maktar’s product credibility (1.1 million units, Good Design Award, Japan market leadership) and the operator’s subscriber trust.

Qubii-branded with operator distribution: The fastest path to market. Operator distributes the existing Qubii product line with a service subscription layer managed by Maktar’s platform.

For Technology Brands #

Complete MFi Solutions Under Your Brand #

Maktar’s IC + firmware + app platform enables technology brands to launch Apple-certified products without building MFi expertise from scratch.

We have been doing this since 2014. Our solutions power products from SoftBank, I-O DATA, Elecom, Transcend, Team Group, PQI, and SANWA DIRECT. We know what works, what Apple requires, and what pitfalls to avoid.

What You Get #

Custom IC chip. Selected from nine generations of MFi-compatible silicon (MK-800 through MK-860), optimized for your product requirements—storage type, interface, power budget, form factor.

Production-ready firmware. iAP 1 and/or iAP 2 protocol implementation, Apple co-processor authentication, power management, and feature-specific firmware (App Launch, Role Switch) as needed.

Companion app. White-label iOS and Android application with customizable UI, branding, feature set, and app store listing. Built on the same backup engine that runs on 1.1 million Qubii devices.

MFi certification support. Guidance through Apple’s certification process from application to testing to approval. We’ve done this dozens of times across multiple product categories and IC generations.

Manufacturing specifications. Complete hardware reference design, BOM, and manufacturing documentation. We work with manufacturing partners including Foxlink, Jabil, and Liteon.

Licensing Economics #

Our B2B technology licensing model is straightforward: you pay for the IC solution and app platform, and you sell the product under your brand at your price to your customers. No ongoing royalties on hardware sales. App customization and maintenance are covered under the licensing agreement.

For brands considering entering the Apple accessory market, partnering with Maktar eliminates years of MFi development work, avoids common certification failures, and gives you access to a production-proven technology platform from day one.

For Enterprise IT and Managed Service Providers #

Managed Backup for Mobile Workforces #

Enterprise employees carry company-relevant data on their personal and corporate mobile devices—photos from site inspections, documents from field operations, contact databases, communication records. Most of this data is unprotected.

Qubii’s automatic backup technology, originally designed for consumers, can be deployed as a managed backup solution for enterprise mobile devices:

  • Zero-configuration deployment: Distribute Qubii devices to employees. Backup happens automatically during charging. No MDM enrollment required for the backup function.
  • Local-first architecture: Sensitive corporate data stays on a physical device controlled by the employee, not on a third-party cloud. Suitable for industries with strict data residency requirements.
  • Compliance-friendly: Automatic backup creates a verifiable record of data protection practices. Useful for industries where data retention policies apply to field-generated content.
  • Platform-agnostic: Supports both iOS and Android devices through a single solution.

Integration with Existing Infrastructure #

Qubii Air’s architecture supports integration with enterprise storage and management systems:

  • Cloud tier customization: AWS Glacier is the default cold storage tier, but the architecture supports integration with enterprise-specified cloud storage (Azure, GCP, private cloud).
  • Policy management: Configurable backup policies—what gets backed up, how often, retention periods, archival rules.
  • Reporting: Backup status reporting and compliance audit trails.

Why Maktar #

Proven at Scale #

This is not a prototype. This is not a pitch deck. Maktar has shipped over 1.1 million Qubii devices globally since 2018. The technology works. The manufacturing pipeline works. The supply chain works.

Japan-Proven Quality #

68% of Maktar’s revenue comes from Japan—the world’s most demanding consumer electronics market. Products sold in Japan face scrutiny on quality, reliability, packaging, customer service, and attention to detail that exceeds virtually any other market. Maktar meets this standard daily.

Deep Apple Ecosystem Expertise #

MFi-certified since 2014. Nine generations of custom IC solutions. Firmware-level implementation of iAP 1, iAP 2, App Launch, Role Switch, and Apple co-processor authentication. This expertise does not exist for hire. It exists inside Maktar.

Complete Vertical Integration #

We don’t assemble other people’s technology. We design the IC solution, write the firmware, build the apps, engineer the hardware, manage the manufacturing, and handle customer service. When you partner with Maktar, you get a single point of accountability for the entire stack.
